The name Cnidaria comes from the Greek word ‘cnidos’, which means stinging nettle. They get this name from the many stinging cells housed in the tentacles of most Cnidarians.

Cnidarians are aquatic invertebrate animals; they have muscle fibres which give them the ability to move around or stretch out to capture food.It includes anemones, jellies, corals, bluebottles & many less well-known members; almost all having one universal characteristic – the ability to sting.
